In his 2017 autobiography, Gucci Mane wrote: “I was rapping on these unfinished skeleton beats, to get one batch of ideas out of my system and be able to move on to the next.”
This gave Dr K an idea. Loads of beats had been started and never finished, relegated to the archives where they sat collecting digital dust. So, six at a time, came the Skeletones.
Skeletones are essentially throwaway beats that did start with a spark, but the flame didn’t burn bright enough to see the track through to completion. “Why put out something half-baked?” I hear you ask. The answer is simply that the same spark that started the Skeletone might ignite an inferno of ideas in another artist.
Take Skeletone #Forty Three, for example. LGEE heard it and was inspired to do something he doesn’t usually do: rap into Auto-Tune. He delivered a loud smelling freestyle called ‘Overly Potent.’ That was 2024 – in 2026, CO7, a Christian rapper, recorded and released ‘For Jesus,’ a track on the same beat that goes just as hard but couldn’t be more different.
Whether you’re after a Spanish serenade (Skeletone #Six), a bundle of noise (Skeletone #Fifty One) or there’s a sound in your head that you can’t quite describe, there is something for you in the first Skeletone pack.
This is a compilation of nine 6-track beat tapes, available to stream everywhere under 6FS. You can also purchase the lossless audio for just £10 on 6FS’ Bandcamp page.
